OUR STORY
Hey y’all! It’s “Aunt P,” a/k/a Player Butler. I grew up in the Tidewater area, though my family and roots are all in North Carolina. I’ve sat watch over many whole hog roasts, doused with a vinegar sauce that I could drink right out of the jar. During my college years at the University of North Carolina (GO HEELS), I stopped at every cinder block, dirt parking lot, smoker in the back, BBQ joint I could find. I discovered, nothin’ beats good ole’ NC BBQ!
I mentioned I use family recipes. And wouldn’t you know it, my family gave me everything I needed! The Coleslaw is my mother, Alice Butler’s recipe. The Pimento Cheese came from my daddy, Peter Butler. My boyfriend’s mother, Sue Sue Jordan’s Mac-N-Cheese is well known in certain exclusive circles. And once I tasted Teresa Coughlin’s Sweet Potato Dumplings, I knew I had to have them on my menu. Lastly, my eight-year-old niece, Lucy Longino, taught this non-baker how to make a Chocolate Chess Pie. So, there you have it!
My story cannot be told without expressing my gratitude for this gift of recovery. I have found a new passion, one that I have the privilege of sharing with each customer I meet. I take pride in providing delicious food that feeds the soul and presenting it with a bow on the top. No really, I love bows! As the strong southern women in my life have taught me, “Give them more than they are expecting, and
make sure it’s pretty.”
Bless your heart! xo
